Product Description
ABF-1LL Back-Flow Preventer
The model ABF ASSE 1022 vented dual check back-flow preventer protects the connected plumbing and drinking water from the corrosive effects of CO2 gas. The CO2 gas mixed with water in a carbonator tank downstream from the back-flow preventer exerts backpressure on the discharge primary check valve on every pumping cycle. If this check valve becomes fouled and leaks, the CO2 gas and water mixture will exhaust through the vent hose barb fitting. The secondary check insures that it cannot pass to the inlet or contact any brass or copper from the connected plumbing. The simple internal construction is easy to clean. It utilizes a lead free brass body and stainless steel discharge retainer. Under no circumstance is the CO2 gas and water mixture exposed to the lead-free brass inlet or the connected plumbing.
HOW IT WORKS
1.) Normal forward flow of H2O has both check valves open and the vent closed.
2.) Normal backpressure of CO2/H2O has both check valves and vent closed.
3.) Either check valve leaking causes pressure to rise between check valves and the vent will open.
4.) Requires a minimum torque of 30 ft-lbs at center joint to function properly.
5.) Any leakage from vent indicates a fouled check valve.
*Note: A leak at the vent is normal and will happen in service due to dirty or fouled check valves. It is the manufacturer's recommendation to clean and re-torque the device when a failure has occurred.
